The Benefits of Vacuuming Your Mattress

Why vacuum anything? Carpeting, upholstery, mattresses? Why do it? Well, the main reason for vacuuming is to remove dry soils before they become embedded deep in the fabric of your carpeting, upholstery, or mattress.

What happens when soils become embedded in fabrics? The soils (dust, dirt, body oils) will slowly erode the fabric and contribute to the breaking down of these valued materials! When these soils are rubbed and ground into fabrics they slowly grind away at the structure of the fabric and can cause wear, ripping, and fading of colors and textures.

Clearly, dry soils need to be removed on a regular basis to prevent excess damage to your furniture, carpeting, and upholstery.

Why vacuum a mattress? When we sleep we not only sweat and deposit our body oils into our sheets but also into our mattresses. Think about how many hours you spend on your bed…you begin to realize that its almost ⅓ of your life! Now that’s a long time!

In addition to sweating and leaving body oils behind on our mattresses, we also shed millions of skin cells overnight. These skin cells will collect in your mattress and provide delicious meals for all of the bacteria and dust mites that call your mattress home! Kind of a gross thought, right? They’re living off of you!

It wouldn’t be so bad if the dust mites just hung out, kept the noise down, and lived their peaceful lives…

But… they are not as inconsequential as we’d like! Dust mites excrete waste wherever they are living. Now here is where the dust mite issue becomes a problem: dust mite waste contains allergens which can cause nasty reactions in the human body! So, those dust mites need to go!

Vacuuming your mattress is a great way to cut down on the amount dead skin cells that are accumulating in your mattress.

It’s time to evict those dust mites!
